Overview

A User is a special Attribution Type. The User is the individual who is allowed to log on to Plato Data Analyzer Professional. The system has the flexibility to maintain a User and Reviewer separately by creating another Attribution Type; the User being the person who logs into the system, and the Reviewer the individual who may perform the actual review. Users are managed from within Plato Data Analyzer Professional from Managing Users. Critical functions of the system are logged for that user and can be viewed in the Event Log.

Components

Description: (required) Name of user, e.g., Smith, Jane.

Username: (required) Username is what user will use to log on the system. Two users cannot have the same user name. If no username has been specified user will not be able to log on the system.

Password: When a new user is created the password is same as username, and the user will be prompted to change the password the first time Logging On.

Default Facility: (optional). The default facility will be automatically filled in at the time of data entry. The user's default Facility overrides the Role's Facility.

Roles and Users

Rights and permissions are not defined for a user, rather they are defined for the Role. A user is then assigned to one or more Roles. Rights available to the user is a sum total of rights for all the Roles the user is assigned to. Thus if 'User A' is a part of two roles 'Role A' and 'Role B', 'Role A' might allow rights to 'Can Manage Review Templates' and 'Role B' might allows rights to 'Can View Reports'. 'User A' will be able to do both.

Each user also has one default role. When a user creates a new object in the system e.g. Topic, Review Template, or saves a Report etc. its' default Role automatically get full access to those newly created objects; which means all the users in that Role also get full access to those objects.

Special Users

Plato Data Analyzer Professional comes with a built in Administrative user who may perform system level functions against the application system. Administrative users automatically get rights to the entire system, without explicitly assigning any rights. Built-in Administrative users should be used sparingly only under special circumstances. Only Built-in Administrative users can perform following functions:

Add and Remove Server Locations

Manage ADT Interface (optional component)
